my Despatch $210 of 20th April last, I had the honour to recommend that the Colonial Surgeon's Salary should be raised from £500. to £600. per annum. Should your Lordship be pleased to sanction this
recommendation, I think Mr Morrison should find his own Surgical Instruments and Horse, otherwise, that he should be provided with them at the public expense.
As regards Mr. Monism's application to be allowed half his salary from the date of embarkation, the payment could not be made without sanction from home, inasmuch as on his arrival another Gentleman was acting Colonial Surgeon, and drawing the allowance attached to the Office. The Gentleman who was acting as Colonial Surgeon, as fully appointed on the death of Mr. Dill, and the appointment was reported to your Lordship on the 14 October 1846.
